Life insurance companies may deny your insurance claims for various reasons. Failure to pay life insurance premiums may be one of the reasons an insurer decides to deny a claim for benefits. Apart from this, the insurance company may not award you the proceeds if you are not listed as one of the beneficiaries of the policy. 1. Get all your life insurance policy documents in order and familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of the policy. Label on any paperwork that certifies your communications with the insurance company and all proof of payment to the insurance company.

2. Contact the insurance provider and speak with the supervisor of the adjuster who actually denied your claim. Tell them you believe your claim denial is made without a good reason and ask for a convincing explanation for the denial. If there are any required documents that you can forward to the company, such as a notarized copy of the policyholder’s death certificate, please resubmit. If you still do not agree with the policy rejection, request the certified copy of the policy.

3. Ask them to review your life insurance claim. Send them a letter explaining the reasons why you think the rejection was done in an incongruous way. Attach any copies of important documents that may support your claim. Wait 10 business days and contact the insurance company to see if your life insurance claim has been reopened. If not, continue with the next steps.

4. Call or visit the Department of Insurance or Insurance Commission in your state where your life insurance policy was issued. Look up Department of Insurance contact information in the phone book or do a simple Internet search.

5. Submit a completed form for the improper denial of insurance claim to be investigated. You can download the form to dispute an unreasonable insurance decision on most Department of Insurance websites. You can also contact the department and request a form. Also, be sure to provide necessary information such as claim type, claim number, policy number, insurance company name, and a brief description of your problem and recommended workable solutions.

6. Submit the improper denial complaint to the Department of Insurance along with your supporting documents, policy information, and correspondence to review the claim.
